Rev. Luke Millette
"A Call to Sainthood - Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati, Patron of Young Adults"
Fr. Luke Millette was born in Mobile, AL where he attended Catholic schools until transferring to the Alabama School of Math and Science for his junior year of High School. After high school, he attended Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge where he obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While there, he was highly active in the LSU Catholic Student Center. Throughout much of his life, Fr. Luke has also been very involved in the Outdoors doing things like hiking, biking, climbing, and white water paddling. He spent many years in North Carolina at Catholic Summer camp where he taught whitewater paddling. He still pursues these hobbies today.
After college, Fr. Luke began working full time in Houston as an engineer for BP’s Texas City Refinery. It was during this time that he began to seriously consider the priesthood, a question which had persisted since his childhood. After three years of working as an engineer in Houston, he entered seminary for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. He was first sent to Holy Trinity Seminary in Dallas for two years where he studied philosophy. After that, he went to finish his final studies for priesthood in Rome where he obtained a degree in Theology. After ordination, he stayed in Rome to continue his studies and received a degree in Canon Law.
After returning from Rome, he served full time at the Metropolitan Tribunal while also serving in other pastoral roles throughout the Archdiocese.
Currently, he serves as the Judicial Vicar for the Archdiocese as well as assisting regularly as a Sacramental Minister at the Parish of St. Joseph-St. Stephen. He also serves as a Chaplain for the Order of Malta and teaches a course in Canon Law at the Seminary. Fr. Luke first encountered Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati in Rome. A friend knew that Fr. Luke would find a kindred spirit in Blessed Pier Giorgio who had also been an engineer and a great lover of the Outdoors. This friend invited Fr. Luke to a gathering of other like-minded individuals which happened at the home of Wanda Gawronski, the niece of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati. After this, Fr. Luke became very involved in the devotion to Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, and still maintains friendships with many of the Preti Loschi and Tipi Loschi throughout the world.
